Docurama reveals Moore's complete AWFUL TRUTH
Were you shocked by Michael Moore's acceptance speech at the Oscars? If so, then you haven't seen THE AWFUL TRUTH. As outrageous as he was when he received his Oscar, he's even more defiant of society's conventions in his hit series coproduced by Bravo and Channel 4 in the UK. Whether he's hounding a senator on Capitol Hill or embarrassing a corporate lackey, he will stop at nothing for the sake of spreading his message. So, when given the chance to speak to a theater full of Hollywood bigwigs, let alone millions of people across the world, Moore was certainly not going to follow show-business etiquette.
In the soon-to-be-released four DVD box set of THE AWFUL TRUTH, which includes the complete collection of his award-winning series, Moore takes his trademark style of cinematic pestering to new extremes. Knowing no bounds, Moore devotes each show to targeting hot-button issues and ridiculing members of the establishment. In one segment, he invites an HMO henchman to the mock funeral of a patient who needs an organ transplant but can't afford it. In another, he parades a group of homosexuals at a virulent anti-gay rally. In yet another, Moore makes a hue and cry at the Academy Awards about the war in Iraq rather than thank his agent. Oops, that wasn't actually on the series, but it would have made a perfect episode.
Sometimes, Oscar recipients speak too long. Sometimes, they stammer and stutter out the name of their best friend and agent who stood by them in thick and thin. But, when they start pontificating on "duct tape" and "orange alert"-isn't that what the Academy Awards are all about. For all the grief and boos that Moore suffered for his hotheaded speech, he did get our attention. Not to mention, it was Moore's controversial and groundbreaking style of filmmaking that won him the Academy Award in the first place. This same passion and creativity are what make THE AWFUL TRUTH a hilarious and provocative series that everybody should watch. And if you do, you'll be prepared the next time Moore wins an Oscar.
The COMPLETE AWFUL TRUTH DVD BOX SET will become available on DVD beginning April 29th, 2003.
