What's On TV
P.O.V.
http://www.pbs.org/pov
Every summer PBS launches a new season of social documentaries that go where many fear to tread. Considered the quintessential broadcasting venue for issue oriented films by independent filmmakers, POV shares our goal of bringing quality documentaries to the home. Many of our films have been proud alums.

HBO Documentaries
http://www.hbo.com/docs
‘The Sopranos’ and ‘Sex and the City’ aren’t the only things going on at HBO’s Original Productions. HBO documentaries swing from high to low—from stripper docs to Academy Award winners. They often take bold chances, serving up many films that go on to win both audiences and awards. Films with slightly smaller audience potential appear on HBOs sister channel series, Cinemax Reel Life

Independent Film Channel
http://www.ifctv.com
The Independent Film Channel (IFC), our new partner in crime, was also the first network to devote its entire slate of programming to independent films. IFC produces many of the films that you’ll find on the Docurama label.

Sundance Channel
http://www.sundancechannel.com
Much like IFC, Robert Redford’s pet project broadcasts edgy independents features, shorts, and documentaries. We hear that the channel has a new network on the boards of just docs. We look forward to that and wish them luck.

Docmaker Destinations
Documentaryfilms.net
http://www.documentaryfilms.net
This is a good place to start to take a look at what documentaries are currently being shown around the world. Their taste runs from very decent stuff to some very commercial run-of-the-mill type content.

D-Word
http://www.d-word.com
Started by one of our favorite docsters, Doug Block, this forum is the place where filmmakers go to chit chat and figure out how to make their next film. If there’s a doc production in your future, then this is a good place to connect. Part of the site is password protected, however it’s a cinch to sign up and we encourage you to do so.

Independent Features Project
http://www.filmmakermagazine.com
Be sure to check out the Independent Feature Project’s (IFP) new website, an organization that puts on the best producers’ market every Fall in NYC and continues to support indy filmmaking of all stripes in other ways throughout the year. The online version of their print mag, www.filmmakermagazine.com, is a good read, if not more about fiction films than docs.

indieWIRE
http://www.indiewire.com
Some companies start their days off with Variety, we can’t start ours without Indiewire. Make sure to sign up for the daily email newsletter - it’s the most comprehensive source of independent film news.

Association of Independent Video and Filmmakers
http://www.aivf.org
AIVF has been around since the days of portapaks. Today they publish a successful magazine, the Independent, and they continue to support film producers in all kinds of ways. The classified section of their magazine (filled with information on grants, funding, festivals, etc.) is itself worth the price of admission.www.aivf.org/independent

International Documentary Association

The LA based International Documentary Association (IDA) is best known for their annual Doctober screenings, where many docs that end up with Academy Award nominations get first seen by the “industry”.

Independent Television Service/ITVS Funds supports the kind of provocative and cutting edge productions that we cherish. It hosts an open call for story ideas once a year.

Sundance Institute
http://www.sundance.org
The Sundance Fest has evolved into an event with two personalities. One is dominated by Hollywood all talking on their shoe phones in search of the buzz. The other is a festival of great docs with great audiences in search of great films. Guess which festival we attend?

South by South West
http://www.sxsw.com
Music is the heart and soul of South-by-Southwest, the Austin based event. Still, every year without fail some great docs surface here first.
