V-Day: Until The Violence Stops
Extraordinarily empowering and heartbreakingly funny, the Sundance favorite UNTIL THE VIOLENCE STOPS chronicles how Eve Ensler's hit off-Broadway solo show The Vagina Monologues grew into V-Day, an international grassroots movement to stop violence against women and girls. The first of its kind, The Vagina Monologues has been widely recognized as "a celebration of women's sexuality and a condemnation of its violation" (The New York Times) and praised as "frank, humorous and moving" (Chicago Tribune).
In 2002, over eight hundred cities around the world have participated in V-Day by staging benefit performances of The Vagina Monologues. From locales as diverse as New York, the Phillippines and Kenya, director Abby Epstein's UNTIL THE VIOLENCE STOPS features emotionally charged interviews and readings by everyday and celebrity women (including Rosie Perez, Salma Hayek, Rosario Dawson, Jane Fonda and LisaGay Hamilton), all of whom courageously reveal their intimate experiences and bond together to break the silence that surrounds abuse. More than just a group testimonial, UNTIL THE VIOLENCE STOPS is a moving celebration of community awareness that leaves us with the hope that change can happen

As an attendee to Women & Power Conferences, I am consistently inspired by Eve Ensler and the work of V-Day. This is the most powerful video I have ever seen in its capacity to motivate and educate in the most moving way about the insidious horror of violence against women and girls and its negative impact across cultures and supposedly civilized societies. I am buying the DVD to show to all I can reach, especially the men in my life, until the voilence ends.

I'm subscribed to Eve Ensler's V-Day newsletter, I haven't seen this movie and cannot afford to buy this video. However, the title When the Violence Stops...will it, as long as all women live in a patriarchal society?? When will the mindset of a society, under the thumb of religious and social convention, learn to see women as people and not as belonging to someone. The violence will stop when and if women are ever considered as equals in all walks of life. What about the centuries-old man-language of today? Male-oriented language, dominates every aspect of our world and the majority of women in society, comply with male authority no matter which form it takes.

(4-21-05) about the girls that were from Winona that had pins that said "i heart my vigina" and they had the play at there school and the school is trying to get the girls in to trouble for the pins. but there is also T-shirts and i was really intreasted in getting them and selling them to people here at my school to help support these women.
